One of the coolest changes with the new 43f is the introduction of free site membership. Signing in with your 43f account gives you the ability to comment on articles, post to the forum, and more (actually much more soon, but let's not get ahead of ourselves).

Forum members already have an account

If you already have an account with the old messageboard (http://board.43folders.com/), you can simply request a new password to be sent to the email address that you used to register. This is optimal, because then you'll retroactively "own" all your old forum posts, as well as (eventually) owning all the blog comments you've ever left on the WWW using that email address. (We're still working on that one, but it's coming soon)

One of the (seemingly endless) corners we cut to get this thing up was to not import your old avatar, so please just re-upload a new one through your profile page. Questions once you're up and running? Get help on the forum.

Fast and easy for anyone to register

If you never registered for the old board OR no longer have access to the email you used to register, just start a new account now for free. You'll immediately be sent an email with instructions on completing the sign up process. Please monitor your spam box if you don't see it after a few minutes; I promise that if your email address is real, the confirmation gets sent instantaneously and that devil Spam filter is the 99.9% candidate for denying you login joy.

A note: No more anonymous "users"

You'll notice that 43 Folders now requires registration for a lot of the sexier functionality -- and that we no longer allow anonymous comments or the use of "throwaway" email address services for registration. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes, but we think it's important for folks who participate here to do so with the confidence that they're talking to real people who have some real skin in the game.

In future updates to the site, we will be introducing authentication via Drupal, OpenID, and possibly a few other popular services, so keep an eye out if you're hating the idea of YA website signup.
