Everybody needs a personal "status" page
Merlin Mann | Oct 19 2005
Lots of sites have status pages. I wish more people had them.
Yeah, status pages for people should be more popular, and I also wish they were a bit easier to make and maintain. It would be a nifty way to display information like:
I've long had a Lazy Web wish for a little perl script that could That way you could maintain a bunch of easy lists and the script does all the building and posting automagically. You could fake this with a blogging tool, but I like the idea of having it all updated in the background. Got a good personal status page? Seen one you liked? What would you post on yours? Have a fast trick for helping noobs make and post status points to the interweb? Care to pick up my Lazy Web gauntlet? 72 Comments

On a tangent, I often keep a done page of things, actually it's a web dev thing but on each site I work on I have a folder called /changes/ where I list anything I've done to the site. I would say it's just as important, or more so than a ToDo list as by looking at this list you can see if you've been productive lately or not. Obviously a lack of "changes" means either you are slacking or focusing too much on big longterm projects and ignoring the little things. I don't have a public url of changes anymore, but generally I organize them by date (newest on top) and even timestamp them. I also color code them so that black is a normal entry, red is a fix (bug, previous typo, etc) and green is something major (or minor) that has positive effects far outreaching just it's scope (ex: a newer faster database, upgrade, etc). » POSTED IN:
