Cyber Monday safe shopping tips
Merlin Mann | Nov 28 2005
"Cyber Monday" is a new one to me, but allegedly today is the biggest online shopping day of the year. Yay, capitalism. Get out there, type up some bargains, and have fun; but be sure to shop safe. It's a crazy world, and somewhere there's a 14-year-old Russian kid who needs one more identity theft to buy that Xbox 360. Good-looking tips for playing it safe online:
As far as price comparisons and bargin-hunting, I've used Deal News, Price Grabber, and Dealazon, but I'm new to the (media-generated) world of Black Friday/Cyber Monday Mania. Got a favorite site with good deals to share? Any ninja shopping techniques you've mastered? 20 Comments

I think Paul may well...Submitted by Cain (not verified) on November 28, 2005 - 1:54pm.
I think Paul may well be right about "cyber monday" being finely wraught market myth. Two pieces of evidence: A) I have heard this term faar too much in the media today, and never prior; B) A bit of easily replicated googling[1]: I searched "cyber monday" +"cyber monday" twice, once with no date constraints, once constrained to the past three months, and both times got 423,000 results.[2] Something is rotten in the state of Marketroidmark. -Cain [1] The weird term doubling is based on something I read a while ago (ie, before I discovered del.icio.us, hence no link) about term doubling increasing the accuracy of google result counts. [2] I recognize that the dynamic nature of many big media websites may screw with this a bit, but the complete sameness seems convincing enough. » POSTED IN:
