I'm working on an article about email tricks for one of your finer magazines, and -- as you might imagine -- when it comes to the inevitable Windows stuff, I'm a bit light in the useful tips department. So, I turn to you Redmond-using smarties for help. Do you have a favorite application, plugin, trick, or hack for bending Windows email to your will? Outlook 2003 is the center of my work day. Nearly all of the information I deal with comes through Outlook, so it makes sense to manage it there as well (I know, I know, Outlook isn't designed to be an information manager; but why add steps and move all that info elsewhere?) To stay organized I use Taglocity. Taglocity adds Gmail-esque tagging to Outlook, allowing you to plop all of your reference material into one giant folder and filter by tag. Tasks, calendar items, emails, notes; all of it can be tagged. With features like the tag cloud (think 43 Things), AutoTagging (various algorithms learn how you tag and start tagging for you - can be disabled), and TagActions (rules executed based on the tags assigned), email is manageable again. Personal edition is free, but limited. Pro edition is $39 (free upgrades included I think), with a 14 day trial if you want to go down that road.
