Ten plus Two Times Five
hernick | Nov 3 2005
Today, I read Procrastination hack: ?(10+2)*5?. I liked the concept! But syncing myself to a alarm? Urgh. Painful stuff. I hate buzzers. So I invoked the power of Open Source: I fired up Hydrogen, a drum machine. I laid down 12 minutes of beats; the beats synchronise you to the hack. I call it Ten Plus Two - Version One. Download it. Play it in a loop. The beat track itself is a hack. And if you people like it, I'll make a better one. Hell, I'll make a better one anyway. Why? It works for me! Discuss. 19 Comments

I really like the idea here. I've downloaded the MP3 and I'm listening to it now. For me, I've found that the music I listen to can affect my pace significantly. I like the idea of mixing something hard and strong for ten minutes, with something much more chilled for the two. Music, for me, acts as a block to other office noise, so I like to have something relatively loud. I may mix something up using that same 10+2 pattern. I really like the subtle 'ticking' of your MP3, though - it's remeniscent of a timer in a gameshow, and suggests you should be concentrating. Very nice. Oh, and a suggestion; the author suggests; Quote: If you finish a satisfying amount of work in fewer than ten minutes, STOP, and go right to your 2-minute break, than start another 10-minute dash If you did it as 2+10, rather than 10+2, you can restart the track at the end of your task to give you your two minute break! » POSTED IN:
