Levenger Circa Junior review by Emory

Short version: I love it.

Thanks for the explanation. ...

Thanks for the explanation. It really helps to see how someone has put a Circa (or any other GTD-tool) to use. What they use it for and what they DON'T use it for.

I seem to be mimicking you (emory) as far as my GTD setup, I bought the SPBC and Rope Case after reading your reviews on them. I really like them, but I have put too many cards in the SPBC and I'm not getting to it as often as I need to, to stay current and clear. This has led to a slew of index cards in the SPBC and Rope Case that I have become numb to.

I'm looking forward to the Circa Jr. b/c it is a good size (bigger than a 3x5 card, more comparable to a 5x8 I guess) for writing and working on more complex plans, but not too big, like an 8.5 x 11" notebook. I have a 12" PowerBook, so a letter size notebook is about the size of my laptop. Doesn't make the notebook a more mobile option than my PowerBook, so what's the point?

I've began using several (4! with 2 more at home that I use sporadically) Large Moleskines for different purposes (I have 2 at work, both grid, one for daily log entries and one a reporter style for meeting notes, I have to use it on my leg most times as desk space is sometimes not available). I also have a large one for sketching out ideas, book notes and other good reference material, inspirational material, and daily journal entries, and yet a 4th large Moleskine for Real Estate related activities for my side business.

So, to have those near me is a hassle. I love them, don't get me wrong, but to be able to maintain a master notebook (one notebook to rule them all) that can contain any material I want at any time is excellent. Also, especially considering the Rollabind (or Circa) system doesn't use moving parts, therefore increasing reliability over a 3-ring binder.

How many times have I (or anyone else?) used a 3-ring binder with a lot of paper and flipping through it the rings catch the paper and tears it or otherwise causes me issues.

I'm considering printing out my iCal and such, b/c I like being able to plan some things out schedule-wise on paper. I wrote in a calendar (Monthly, weekly, and daily sectons) into my current Pocket Moleskine and I like how I can use it to plan stuff easily. Trying to coordinate with others and write it out for easy visual planning. It sucks for trying to keep it current with iCal, but print outs might fix that issue. We'll see how that goes....

Thanks emory for sharing. I love seeing how people use their tools, it helps to figure out what works for me. I'm looking forward to getting my Circa Jr. and using it.

I posted this link in the other thread I started, but I'll post it here as well:
Seat 1A: How I Use My Levenger Circa Notebook

This guy uses a letter size Circa for his master notebook, pretty neat. Just another posting about how someone uses their notebook.

Also, I just had this thought, it seems the Rollabind (or Circa) notebook would be the ideal system for a commonplace book.

Wikipedia link: commonplace book.

Just a thought...

Again, thanks emory for sharing. My Circa Jr. can't arrive soon enough...
