Just because the world needs to know, these creatures are suspected of doing away with the remains of Amelia Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan.

A team of researchers recently set out for a remote atoll where previous explorers had found traces of an old camp and one or two fragments that could have come from Earhart’s plane.

The new team brought, among other things, pork ribs. They want to lay them out in a clearing just to see where the crabs drag them - the idea being that the crabs might just take them to the same place where Earhart and Noonan were taken.

Their claws are also strong enough to husk a coconut. There’s a good chance readers from northerly climes won’t know what that means, but it’s darn strong.

Oh, God.
