Open Thread: What's your favorite minimalist wallet?

Like most 43F articles on economical carriage and stowage, the Jimi post attracted a lot of interest. Makes me think it's time for an open thread: What's your favorite minimalist wallet? Jimi? Slimmy? Moneyclip? Coin purse? Goin' commando? Spill in comments (and feel free to link to canonical product pages or price compar-i-nators like Froogle).

My own winner for minimalism? Starting before a trip to New York in the late 80s, I started wrapping my driver's license, ATM card, and a bill or two in a couple of my Goody pony tail holders (shut up). I think that was my wallet for at least the next two years -- until I got my first real job and decided to go cowhide again. Still, it remains one of my favorites.

When I did a semester...

When I did a semester in Rome, I was concerned about pickpockets, so I did the rubber band thing and started carrying my stuff in my front pocket. I continued this for about a year after returning to America, and migrated to a leather front-pocket wallet for my cards and such, and a separate moneyclip for my cash. That got to be sort of a pain, so now I have a leather Geoffrey Beene wallet that actually has a moneyclip attached to the outside of it. It's nice to not have the money clip shifting all over my pocket, but I feel a little self-conscious at check-out counters with a big wad of money attached to the side of my wallet.

One thing's for sure: I won't go back to a back pocket wallet, because it's such a pain in the ass.

I think the big question is "how little stuff can you carry in your wallet?" Certainly all of those "buy ten get one free" from your local deli aren't worth the trouble. Here's what I have:

-ID -ATM -Credit Card -security card to get into my office -a laminated card with a bunch of contact info of family members on it -health insurance card -Safeway club card -Soutwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Card (it's really thin!)

Certainly I could get rid of some of that stuff.

Cranking

Merlin used to crank. He’s not cranking any more.

This is an essay about family, priorities, and Shakey’s Pizza, and it’s probably the best thing he’s written. »
