We've started a new feature over on MacBreak Weekly that I really hope becomes a regular thing: "_Mac Whines_!" Yeah, sure, I'm an unapologetic Apple fanboy (I, mean duh), but some stuff about my Mac experience makes me crazy. Have you got a beef with your Mac or OS X you want to shout from the shiny counter of the "Genius" Bar? Yeah, me too. I'll open with:

Requiring that resizing always be done from the lower right corner of a window. The Apple Human Interface Guidelines state "Support direct manipulation when users are likely to expect it.". Users coming from just about any other windowing environment are very likely to expect to resize a window by grabbing any edge or corner. I know having such small "edge" targets is counter to Fitts' Law, but they should still be there for anyone willing to make the time/convenience tradeoff. In certain cases, such as resizing a full screen window and placing it in the upper right corner, the current situation is less efficient. » POSTED IN:
